I am descended from Daniel Carmichael (1736-1822), a shepherd from Appin who immigrated to North Carolina in the American Colonies in 1773. His son, Daniel, was later the first to assume the surname Michael and acted as an agent for President George Washington in maintaining the peace with the Cherokee Nation of what is now Eastern Tennessee in 1793-1794. I am a member of The Stewart Society and enjoyed visiting Appin and staying at Ardsheal House. I am also honored to be the first and only individual of the surname Michael to receive a grant of arms from the Lord Lyon, King of Arms for Scotland. I intend to return many times to continue my research into Daniel Carmichael (the Elder) and to learn more of his first wife, Margaret Munro (Monroe). If there is anyone with more information on Daniel or Margaret, I would welcome contact.
